The green home initiative offer is a brand new scheme to get homeowners to play their part in the green thumb. The government of Canada has announced grants of 700,000 grants of up to $5000 and other incentives for energy-efficient home retrofits. The good news is that The Window Experts can help you upgrade to more energy-efficient windows and doors that would qualify you for the grant.
Eligible homeowners in Canada can participate in the initiative, irrespective of where they live. New homeowners are on the search to save, however, the new grant allows ONLY one homeowner per home to register.
You will be required to provide the following documentation:
Proof of Ownership: Property tax bill number (stated on your municipal property documents
Primary Residence Proof: Utility bill, driver’s license, or government-issued ID
The question is what are the benefits of taking part in this home renovation project? We’ll get into a detailed explanation of it below. Keep reading to find out how to participate in the new Retrofits grant.
Before being allowed to participate, the one mandatory rule is that your house must be deemed eligible for EnerGuide home.
See below if your home meets the standards:
Townhouses
Semi-detached houses
Single houses
Cottages
Permanent foundation mobile moving homes
Floating homes that are permanently moored
Multi-unit small residential buildings with a footprint of 600m2 or less (3 stories)
Residential portions of mixed-use buildings
Let’s Get Started:
Step 1: Schedule an EnerGuide home evaluation before the retrofit. The home evaluations identify energy-efficient planning techniques to understand the performance of homes following the retrofits. You can plan this ahead of time, and find an energy advisor registered with NRCan in your area.
Step 2: Document each moment during the retrofit experience. To receive payment, remember to hang onto your receipts. The EnerGuide home evaluation for all the retrofit work and window upgrades includes future invoices. The energy advisor may capture before and after retrofit work but it’s safer to have a copy of your own as well.
Out of the 3 requirements, one of the following includes finishing a retrofit that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor in their report. The homeowners who take part in at least one retrofit will be fully reimbursed.
Step 3: Post Retrofit evaluation. The time for the homeowners to assess the outcome of their energy-efficient home renovation project. It’s important to keep copies of the results in documentation, especially until March 31st, 2028. The retrofit documentation on energy performance differences before and after changes to complete the project.
Perks of the Program:
Once you have finished the retrofits project and are looking to get the money back for your investment. If you followed the requirements to be eligible, you may seek reimbursement for up to:
Up to $5,000 total for the eligible retrofits completed past December 1st, 2020
Up to $600 for the Energuide home evaluations, the cost of the pre-and post-retrofit assessments. However, regardless of whether you completed the home improvement project, you will NEED to continue the full Greener Homes Grant process if you want the reimbursement. The EnerGuide evaluations completed before December 1st, 2020 are not eligible for reimbursement.
**All mechanical and electrical systems, besides thermostats, have to be installed by a registered and licensed trained professional**
Implementation of new strategies: A low-cost loan program that is based on home evaluation and grants. These movements are simple for homeowners with a large homes to make the change. Homeowners who take part in the program must be aware all products be they windows or doors, need to be bought in Canada. Online purchases are eligible for reimbursement if they are ordered from an online distributor based in Canada.
Now that the eligibility criteria are clear. The perks of the program are deeper than the surface level. This summer a new interest-free loan program is designed to provide homeowners with more time to complete their home retrofit projects with up to $40,000.
These initiatives are directed towards low-income Canadians in many provinces, territories and municipalities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The loan program will allow more room for people to take advantage of the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
