Hello everyone, my name is Igor and today I want to talk to you about a program that most window companies are now advertising regarding a $5,000 refund in the state of Ontario.
There have been two different refund programs in recent years, one was through Enbridge Gas called HER+ (Home Efficiency Rebate+) and the Canada Greener Homes Grant. Since these are government programs, we decided to check them through the official websites of Enbridge and Natural Resources Canada.
Warning About Enbridge Gas Scam
On the Enbridge website, you can immediately see a warning about a scam where fraudsters have created fake Enbridge Gas websites with false information. There you can also find the following message:
“Given the high demand for the program and the number of households that have participated, we have successfully filled all available spots earlier than expected with regard to the joint funding between Enbridge Gas and the Canada Greener Homes Grant.”
Current Status of the Canada Greener Homes Grant
Since the program that is being advertised is a government program in Ontario, we checked the NRCan website – this is the government website of natural resources of Canada and it says that the Canada Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants.
Homeowners who are already participating are encouraged to proceed in a timely manner with their retrofits and will continue to be eligible for funding and support through the Canada Greener Homes portal. And only existing applicants can receive $50 for a window replacement.
To do this, you need to have triple-glazed windows and Energy Star Rated glass. That is, in fact, you need to overpay a significant amount of money to get back $50 for a window. A large difference in energy savings is also a very controversial issue.
Canada Greener Homes Loan Program
The only program that a client can apply for now is the Canada Greener Homes Loan, which gives you up to $40,000, interest-free with a repayment term of 10 years, but in order to try to get it, you need to do a home energy audit for which you will be returned $600, but the cost of the audit will start from only $700-800.
And finally, we advise you not to be led by advertising in which they are ready to give you everything for free. Understanding the intricacies of window rebate programs in Ontario can help you make informed decisions and avoid potential scams. Contact professionals and we will always be happy to help you.
